Respond to Fire Incidents in Workplace course aims to equip the learners with the skills necessary to handle a relatively simple fire incident that might happen anywhere in the workplace.

These skills will allow learners to handle a fire incident in a cool and calm manner, and execute steps to extinguish the fire. Learners will learn the proper way to handle a fire extinguisher, and also learn about several precautions to take for fire hazards.

The target audience of this competency unit may include:

  • Company Emergency Response Teams (CERT) from commercial, industrial, and workplaces are the first responders for incidents in their respective premises.
  • Persons who want to be recognized as the competent person applying emergency response skills during an emergency incident in the workplaces. (Public and industrial buildings without or stored under the exemption limit of petroleum and flammable materials).
  • This course aims to provide people already working in all industries with the skills and knowledge required to effectively respond to fire incidents in designated buildings/workplaces. It is targeted at individuals who are currently involved in their organization’s CERT in any capacity: The competency unit would be appropriate for those with tactical and operational responsibilities.
  1. Introduce or reinforce the relevant legislation surrounding the formation and activation of CERT.
  2. Familiarize participants with the various possible fire hazards and the usage of fire protection systems in buildings.
  3. Instruct participants on correct methods to conduct initial fire-fighting using various extinguishing mediums.

Learners will be provided with a physical copy of the Learner’s Guide on the first day of class.

  1. On completion of this unit, the learner will have the knowledge and be equipped with the application skills and knowledge required to effectively respond to fire incidents.
  2. Learners will be able to handle a fire incident in a cool and calm manner and execute steps to extinguish a fire that is small and simple to contain. Learners will be able to learn the proper way to handle a fire extinguisher and learn about serval precautions to take for fire hazards.
  3. This course will provide the CERT in Public and Industrial premises (without or stored below the exemption quantity of petroleum and flammable material) with the skills and knowledge required to effectively respond to fire incidents. Being competent in this course will enable the CERT to meet the requirements under the National CERT Standard.
