WSQ Supervise Metal Scaffold Erection (SMSE)

Under the WSH Act 2006 (Scaffolds), it is mandatory for all persons who want to be a scaffold supervisor to undergo training approved by the Commissioner for Workplace Safety & Health from the Ministry of Manpower (MOM).

Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to identify and clearly explain the following:

  • Material Requirements for scaffolding
  • Safety in erection and dismantling of scaffold including hazard identification and risk assessment
  • The WSH Act 2006 (Scaffolds)
  • Prepare and implement the scaffold inspection checklist
  • Requirements, purposes and key points for consideration when selecting different types of scaffolds

Statement of Attainment (SOA) will be awarded upon completion of each unit.

Pre-requisites

Successful completed the metal scaffold erection course. Proof of entry requirement includes the submission of certificate of successful completion or WSQ certificate of attainment (SOA).

  • Employability skills (ES) workplace literacy level 4 and above
  • be able to manipulate numbers at a proficiency level equivalent to ES workplace numeracy level 4 and above

The Supervise Metal Scaffold Erection course is a mandatory WSH training program for all workers supervising scaffolding works at construction sites and related industries.

This course is suitable for metal scaffold erectors aspiring to become metal scaffold supervisors.

Under the WSH Act 2006 (Scaffolds) Regulations:

  • The scaffold supervisor must be a person who has undergone a course of training approved by the Commissioner (Regulation 6(1)).
  • This course of training is the Supervise Metal Scaffold Erection.

  15. Characteristics of the suspended scaffold.
  16. Special scaffolds and their types.

  19. Factors affecting the safety of scaffold structure.

Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to perform the following;

  1. Set up and erect independent tied scaffold in accordance with safe work procedures, general principles and requirements of CP 14 / SS659, WSH (Scaffold) Regulations and other related WSH Regulations.
  2. Perform inspection and dismantling of independent tied scaffold in accordance with safe work procedures, general principles and requirements of *SS659, WSH (Scaffold) Regulations and other related WSH regulations.
  3. Perform erection, inspection and dismantling of frame scaffold in accordance with safe work procedures, general principles and requirements of SS659, WSH (Scaffold) Regulations and other related WSH regulations.
  4. Perform erection, inspection and dismantling of birdcage scaffold in accordance with safe work procedures, general principles and requirements of SS659, WSH (Scaffold) Regulations and other related WSH regulations.
  5. Perform erection, inspection and dismantling of tubular scaffold in accordance with safe work procedures, general principles and requirements of SS659, WSH (Scaffold) Regulations and other related WSH regulations.
  6. Perform erection, inspection and dismantling of aluminum tower scaffold in accordance with safe work procedures, general principles and requirements of SS659, WSH (Scaffold) Regulations and other related WSH regulations.
  7. Perform erection, inspection and dismantling of cuplock scaffold in accordance with safe work procedures, general principles and requirements of SS659, WSH (Scaffold) Regulations and other related WSH regulations.
  8. Identify hazards and ensure safety of scaffold and dismantling.
  9. Record work in scaffold register and inspection checklists.
